About Press Start Cards

Press Start Cards It’s the first collectable video game magazine! Every month, Press Start Cards publishes 30 reviews of retro and modern video games, with one game review per card. These cards are packaged in boosters of eight cards. In short, collect them all! It’s a bit like Joypad or Console+ merging with Magic: The Gathering cards. FUUUUUU…. SIOOOOOOOONNNNNNNN!

I sorely miss the ‘popcorn’ video game press of the 90s and 2000s! Not just out of nostalgia, but for its brevity, conciseness, and the fact that it was subjective and unapologetic. Here, we’re changing the format whilst keeping the same spirit: 1 card = 1 review, with the added bonus of an element of surprise and a space-saving design! No more adverts either! In short, it’s about sharing our passion and helping people discover or rediscover forgotten gems or up-and-coming hits!

What’s small, quick to read, really cool, loads of fun and easy to swap? A card! Well, there you go – now you know everything! More seriously, our desire to take the fun of a video game magazine to new heights is realised through a unique format and a fresh way of engaging with video game reviews.

Is this actually legal?

Yes, absolutely – even though the cards aren’t officially licensed! These are, first and foremost, press articles! There are no collectable cards based on specific video game licences! Three-quarters of the content is text-based and informative! The image used is the game’s cover art (which remains the property of its rights holders) and is included for information purposes only, as it’s the best way to identify the game so you can find it in physical or online shops. In short, the cover image is used under the right to quote!
