What is the Bridge format?
The Bridge format is a playing card format that is narrower than the Poker format. At Press Start Cards, it measures 57 × 89 mm. This reduced width can make it easier to handle when players need to hold several cards at once.
This format is particularly associated with traditional card games and may also be suitable for certain modern board games, prototypes and educational materials.
It offers several advantages:
A compact design. The reduced width makes it easier to lay out several cards in a fan shape. This is a useful feature for games in which players hold a set of cards in their hand.
A format tailored to card games. It is ideal for projects requiring a large number of cards without taking up too much space on the table.
An alternative to the Poker format. If your cards mainly feature symbols, numbers or short text, the Bridge format may be sufficient. If your game requires detailed illustrations or long text, the wider Poker format is also worth considering.
Please note: the dimensions of the Bridge format may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. Always use the Press Start Cards template to prepare your files and check the dimensions of your accessories before ordering.
For which projects should you choose custom Bridge cards?
The Bridge format is aimed at several different types of customer. It is not limited to bridge players: it can also be used to create original games, promotional materials and learning tools.
Bridge clubs, associations and gaming communities
Do you represent a bridge club or a card games association? Print personalised cards in your organisation’s colours, featuring your logo, your illustrations or graphics designed specifically for your events.
You can use personalised cards as demonstration materials, gifts for members or as part of a community project.
For a special event, a tournament or a club meet-up, a personalised card game also makes for a useful souvenir that ties in with the participants’ activities.
Independent board game designers
Are you designing a card game and want to test your mechanics before launching a large-scale production run? Printing prototypes in Bridge format allows you to produce the cards needed for the first few games.
This format is suitable for games based on values, symbols, actions or relatively short effects. It is also ideal for games in which players need to hold several cards in their hand.
Start with a small run, gauge players’ reactions, refine the rules and tweak the illustrations before producing a new version.
This means you can avoid having to invest in a large stock straight away whilst your game is still in development.
Businesses, events and promotional gifts
Personalised playing cards can also serve as an original marketing tool. A company can create a game featuring its logo, illustrations related to its business, or a set of cards designed around its products.
